You are a generous aunt! Are you setting up savings in lieu of gifts?

Can you share what you are doing for your niece and nephew? I have a nephew on the way, he will be here in May. I would like to start saving for him and give it to him when he is ready to handle it. Or if he decides to go to college, use the money to pay for some of it.

creditcardfree - this is in addition to gifts. My nephew is pretty much abandoned on his father's side & I like to do what I can to help him (and now the niece). This is the first year I have set aside dollar amounts for savings, but with OT available to me, I am fine working a few extra hours to make that happen!

Nebraska girl - I opened an ING (now CapitalOne360) account for him and will be doing the same for my niece. I will just be waiting for a 'sale' on new accounts with them!

That's awesome! I would like to be able to give my siblings $500.00 or so for college. I have a sister that graduated highschool May, 2013 and she is going to the beauty academy, she's doing great and halfway done! My next sister has 2 1/2 more years until college. I expect her to get good scholarships as she holds a 3.8 GPA and is very very athletic. I would like to give her at least $500.00 for anything that isn't paid for when she goes to college. And if she gets a full ride, then I would give it to her to pay for her wedding, or house or something. It isn't much, but I think it would help. I would like to do this for my siblings as my parent's don't have very much money and I hate to see them go under water anymore then they already are. I will do this for my nieces/nephews also (first nephew arrives in May!!!)
