one more thing...about the cat & $

November 14th, 2006 at 02:12 am

I love my cat, Colbi. She's cute, she plays with toys, she follows me around the house, she loves to snuggle AND she greets me at the door when I come home at night.

BUT she has crystals, so I have to buy special cat food for her. And when I take her to the vet, like I did today, we have to do urinalysis tests to make sure they didnt come back. We only do it every year or two, but its pricey.

Plus, she's 5 years old now & the vet noted some gingivitis. No biggie, but her gums are swollen & they look painful. So, now I need to get her a teeth cleaning. More $$$.

I had been thinking about getting a second cat, but with the costs, I've decided against it.

Even though the vet today was VERY costly, when we go to bed & she snuggles with me, I'll know its worth it Smile

Sorry to hear about that. You're the second person this week who has "told" me their cat was just diagnosed with crystals. I don't know if it would make a difference, but I fear my cat getting crystals so I always give her filtered water (we already have a PUR filter on the tap for us so it's no biggie).

My cat costs me a fortune too! But he's family and he's worth it. He's now 23 and I've had him for about 15 years.

Please give your kitty a cuddle for me.

my kitties are worth their weight in gold!! ok, maybe worth their weight in copper, but you know what i mean Big Grin
for folks who raz me about the cost of owning a pet, i tell them to research the stress reducing benefits of owning a pet. i figure the money i dump into food, litter, shots, treats, and toys is a lot less than what i would dump into treating myself for strees, hypertension, and heart disease. it's preventative maintenance!

    Threebeansalad,
My vet explained that crystals are due to the cat's body not processing minerals the way that they should. Certain foods will create the crystals, but I don't know that water would. But hey, every little bit helps Smile

Luckily, the vet food has effectively stopped the crystals. She hasn't shown any symptoms in over 3 years. YEAH!
