Lessons Learned

April 20th, 2006 at 03:10 am

I work in banking and I realized today that the people in my department have a saying:

"The one thing I've learned from this job is what not to do with credit card debt"

I've done well so far, pay my card off every month, but I've also realized that I use the card way too much. I rationalize that I'm paying it off, but because I can do so, I use it more than is necessary.

So I am focusing on not using the cards at all (except for school expenses, while waiting on my tuition reimbursement).

For the rest of April and all of May, I vow not to use my credit cards. I will use the cash I have budgeted for and when its done its done. Wish me luck.

I don't use my cc when out of the house, just here at my desk for online purchases. But, I put a post it note on the cc number here.........and list the purhcases, keeping a running tally for the month. So far, it's only the couple items that get charged to this account monthly (Netflix, Kalcents for my mom) It was a tip from someone, that I modified for my situation here. I think it's working!!

    Good luck!...
I leave my cc locked in my office drawer on weekends - when temptation is worse for me!...it helps if you cannot get to it immediately!

I too used my cc a lot and paid it off every month...but last month DH and I decided to just stop. He took his out of his wallet and I took all them out of mine too except one for true emergencies. So far, so good! We have not missed them at all and I love the feeling of not having to fork over cash at the end of the month. We've even made an extra $500 payment to the car loan that normally would be used to catch up the cc. Good luck!
