Anyone want to join me for a February Lunch Challenge?

January 31st, 2011 at 02:27 am

I am planning another Lunch Challenge for myself. I am looking to make healthy meals to bring to work instead of buying food while there. This is to help me with my Weight Watchers as well as with my eating out budget.

So there are 20 work days in the month of February. My goal is to pack breakfast, lunch & snacks for 18 of them. My stretch goal would be to pack for 20 & that might be doable since my work is providing me pizza one day & my manager is taking us out to lunch on her dime another day.

Anyone else who'd like to join, just let me know what your goal is! This is for fun Smile

And to get a jump start, I packed all my food for tomorrow, even though its still a January date.

I'll be spending most of Feb away, but I very much support your challenge. Bringing my own lunch and snacks saves me at least $150/ month and was instrumental for me starting at 187 and now being at 168.

What most helps is that I make several days worth of lunches at a pop. I recommend it if you aren't too scared of leftovers Smile, have access to a work refeer, no lunch thieves, and a microwave. I take a small square Ziploc storage box, layer it with cooked brown rice about 1/2 to 2/3 c, add about 4-6 oz of a protein - x-tra firm tofu, ham, chicken/turkey breast, leftover meat entree. Then I add a tablespoon of a condiment - chutney, pickle, or dip. Check out the ethnic aisle in your grocery store for ideas. I just finished eating all my turnip pickles (2 qts!) doing this very thing.

I would, but I already pack a lunch every day, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch for me! But I strongly recommend it as a good habit to get into!

I always eat breakfast and most dinners at home. I will see your challenge to make 18 lunches in February. I have never actually keep track of the count, so this should be interesting.

I have totally gotten away from the packing my lunch habit...so I am joining in. I just packed my breakfast, lunch and snack for tomorrow...so- I am joining on the practice run too.

I'm on holiday all this week but I'll join you when I'm back. I'll aim to pack for the 15 shifts I'm working in February.

I, too, am a packer... so I fear it wont be much of a challenge. I'm entirely down with sharing what we brought, though! I'm always interested to see what people pack-- if it's a standard sandwich, or if they do something a bit different. I usually go with salads. So good... Mmm.

Glad to have you guys join (if its not already your habit)! lol

Basalle - I do pack a day or two at a time usually, but I will definitely have to check out the ethnic aisle!

And I really like Pjmama's idea - share what we brought! Anyone who'd like to do that, please share!

Yes - this is why I usually join the challenge. So much of what I do to save money I don't take about (it's just habit), so when I participate I generally share what I packed for lunch.

I'm an easy in too, as I always take my lunch :-)
