8 days off & on in the hospital = daily emails from my insurance about claims

Oh the joys of being in & out of the hospital - INSURANCE

I am so glad to have some insurance or this could have been a much more financial hit. However, the amount of claims that have been coming through have been insane.

I had an ER visit the day of the dog bite - this includes a doctor billing me as well as the ER.

2 days later, I was back in the ER where TWO doctors and the ER bill me AND I am admitted into the hospital for 4 days/3 nights.

I go home for ONE night.

And I ended up in the ER again where multiple doctors visited me and argued over what to do, so I get their bills plus an ER bill AND I was admitted for another 4 days/3 nights.

During that time, I had hand surgery - so surgery is billed plus the surgeon plus the doctors that visit me again.

The claims are just ROLLING in.

Our insurance has a $2400 family deductible. WE already hit that (with a minor surgery I had earlier this year and this situation). However, we also have a $7000 out of pocket maximum. When all is said & done, we will be hitting that as well.

UGH - but we can use up our HSA and Medical savings and hopefully cashflow the rest.

Sad that essentially the amount of my severance will be used for this though instead of saving it.

I'm so sorry about this! I hope you (finally) have a good recovery!

I'm so sorry you're going through all this. Any kind of animal bite on the hand is especially bad because an infection can travel so quickly there. I almost had to have hand surgery as well when my cat Luther bit me when I had adopted him and he was scared traveling home in the car.

  3. PatientSaver Says:

What exactly did they do with the hand surgery?

  4. HouseHopeful Says:

The bite was originally sutured. They prefer NOT to do stitched, but my hand was torn and had to be closed. This leaves it open to infection. I had 2 types of bacteria infecting my hand and when the I V antibiotics weren't completely clearing it up, they opened up the sutures, washed the hand out and removed some infected tissue. It immediately helped.

I can understand a bit better thinking about infection. I was a bit confused as to why so many re-visits. Did both doctors do something?? Because I have never been charged for 2nd doctor if they were just consulting. Having to be readmitted after only one night gone seems to suggest you should have not been discharged the first time.

I had a bug bite turn into MRSA (hospital related minor emergency clinic ) but after original visit the followup visits were covered by the first exam/ diagnosis and I was not charged again. I went back daily for a week granted most were quick look overs and see if it spread but also had a bit of tissue removed etc without extra charges. saw 4 different doctors no extra charge.

Wow, you've been through a lot. Sure hope your recovery goes well and I'm sorry about all the expense.
